The 2020 Chevy Equinox recently made headlines when it earned a spot on the U.S. News list of top compact SUVs. In particular, US News rated vehicles on their maximum cargo space measurements, noting vehicles that scored high in terms of roominess while still offering the advantages of compact design. Among these contenders, the Equinox was one of the top models in the industry.
While it might seem odd to rank compact SUVs and crossovers on their cargo space, U.S. News designed the awards to showcase those vehicles that provide the amenities of full-size SUVs while at the same time providing the cost-saving advantages of compact engineering — such as better affordability, handling, and fuel economy. The Equinox, in particular, has nearly 30 cubic feet of cargo space, with up to 63.9 cubic feet with the rear row folded down.
U.S. News & World Report writer Cherise Threewitt notes that with you’ll also some extra space hidden beneath the load floor, along with a hands-free power tailgate for easy access to the cargo area.
The 2020 Equinox doesn’t skimp on capabilities either, offering up to 3,500 pounds of maximum towing capacity, as well as 31 highway mpg* with the proper powertrain. Additionally, the Equinox earned a Five-Star Overall Vehicle Score for Safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
